I will graciously give you a new, tender heart and put a new, willing spirit inside you. I will remove your hard heart of stone and give you an obedient, responsive heart instead.”
Ezekiel 36:26 The Passion Translation
I love this translation because it confirms what I heard in my heart. Many times, we are unaware of our heart drifting into a hardened state. We overcome so many obstacles until we do not notice the changes taking place in our hearts during the various challenges. One disappointment can start a callus on the heart. After so many disappointments, we move forward to the next project without a pause. Some disappointment can knock the wind out of you, and stepping back to gather the broken pieces is important, this usually take place during the healing process. But if you begin to move forward too quickly, the growth in wisdom is not granted. Countless disappointments can harm the heart causing it to harden as stone, over time, conscience has grown to dissipate, and unresponsiveness. You are moving without real purpose not realizing the callus has grown into a hard stone. Pride becomes the centered around every action, you no longer feel compassion, and what is in the heart pours out words of judgment, criticism, and defeat. But God is good for keeping His promise, I will remove your hard heart of stone and give you an obedient, responsive heart instead.”
The God who created the heart is the same God who brings the heart back to life. The pain from disappointments can take no further steps into our future. With our help, God can give us a new heart, taking the stony heart away. Our thoughts are compassionate towards others and passionate towards the Kingdom of God. His new heart in us stops seeking unhealthy relationships yet is open to new healthy ones. Responsibility comes with this new heart; we must learn to love ourselves so that you can love our neighbors.
He generously gives us a new heart, and He gives us HIS Spirit! Wow, we are a new creation and can experience life and life more abundantly! Our will is now about His purpose and His plan to live a life of His goodness in the land of the living.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father thank you for your unfailing love. We are forever grateful for providing us with a new heart and your spirit in us. Guide is daily in your plans, keep our heart from things that would harm and cause callouses to form. Keep our heart open to you as you live this amazing life you have given us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
