The Invitation

Add veil to bride’s hair
A joyful bride stands barefoot on the beach holding a bouquet at sunset

In a dream, I was wearing a white wedding gown and veil. I was filled with excitement as I walked the street, talking and hugging people until I reached the venue where I am getting married.

I walked in the side door and saw some of the wedding party looking through a window. I joined them to see what was happening. I stood afar off from what was happening outside. There was a man dressed as the groom standing next to the groom’s men. He was very sure he would be the one to marry me. He was playing around with the groom’s men, saying that he was happy and wanted them to help him learn a dance for the celebration.

Others watching with me began to joke about his gestures, but I was concerned. I could not understand why he would think he would marry me when there was no relationship. For a while, I let him serve as the groom, but the more he claimed that role, the more uncomfortable I became. So, I decided to meet him in a room where we could talk; he agreed!

In the quiet room, we stood far apart from each other. I asked him why he thought he was the groom. He said, “I always loved you! We have known each other since childhood! Why shouldn’t it be me?” I replied, “But we have no relationship. I do not know you enough to be my husband.” He disagreed and began to walk closer to me. The men standing afar behind him began walking towards him and, if necessary, would hold him so he would not hurt me. When he saw the men approaching him, he began to walk toward me faster. The men grabbed him, and he began to resist them. They held him tightly so he could listen to what I was saying. “I did not invite you here, and I am asking you to leave because you will make a scene. You are not welcome to the wedding reception because I do not trust you, and I must protect my husband from you.” He asked, “Why can’t it be me? We were good friends!” I replied, “I have not seen you in years.” I quietly asked the groomsmen to escort him out and get security involved if they needed to.

I return to my quarters to finish getting ready to walk down the aisle. As I stood waiting for the doors to open, I became extremely nervous. Thoughts of what just happened with a man I did not know and what is about to happen with a man I am beginning to know, all were in a vortex. The doors opened, and as I stood there nervously waiting for the cue to walk in, I noticed my husband standing in confidence; I intensely looked around the room, then back at him. He looks at me, recognizing my anxiousness, with so much love in his eyes. With a soft smile and voice, saying, “Come away with me, my love!”  The tone in his voice made me feel safe, and I began walking toward him.

When I awoke from the dream, I asked the Lord about the dream. He reminded me of reading and studying chapter two of Songs of Solomon.

“The one I love calls to me: Arise, my dearest. Hurry, my darling. Come away with me! I have come as you have asked to draw you to my heart and lead you out. For now is the time, my beautiful one.”

Song of Songs 2:10 TPT

Just as the groom in the dream, the Lord is inviting us to come away with Him. An invitation to spend time with Him is a gift. He is willing to share with us things we have been praying about. He is calling us into a deeper relationship with Him. Just as the bride said in the dream, ‘she did not know the man enough to marry him. The invitation will not be available for everyone; it is presented to those who are willing to leave things behind to be with Him in conversations, worship, prayer, or just sit at His feet and listen to whatever He wants to share.

““Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

Revelation 3:20 NLT

In the dream, the husband to be voice felt safe to the bride, so is the voice of the Lord. He is a safe place to be! You can trust to leave everything behind and go away with your husband.

“I will say to the Lord, “You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God and I trust you.””

Psalms 91:2 NCV

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the invitation to join you. Help us to leave behind our cares of this world and be with You in whatever way You desire. Father, those who are struggling to accept Your invitation, we all want to accept Your invitation, but the distractions are overwhelming them. Help us to understand that Your peace is what we need in our lives. We can trust in Your peace and Your Presence! We now accept Your invitation to join You in Your presence to hear Your voice and get to know You better today than yesterday. In Jesus’Name, Amen.
